Generative AI Services for All University Members
The provision status of Generative AI services for all university members as of March 2026 is summarized below.
Frequently Inquired Generative AI Services
Chat-based Services
Among the Generative AI services contracted university-wide at the University of Tokyo, the following two are the main chat-based services:
Both of the above services allow you to use basic features equivalent to a paid contract with your University of Tokyo account. Anyone with a UTokyo Account can use them. In addition, certain terms and conditions are established regarding data protection and other matters. (However, this information is as of March 2026. If there are changes to the actual available features or conditions, the rules and precautions for on-campus use may change. In particular, regarding data protection clauses, please consistently verify whether they are appropriate for your use. In some cases, it may be necessary to explicitly perform opt-out operations.)
For details on using these services with your UTokyo account, please see the following pages:
- Regarding the Use of Gemini with ECCS Cloud Email (in Japanese)
- Provision of Generative AI Chat via Microsoft Copilot (in Japanese) (March 1, 2024)
Please note that although we frequently receive inquiries about ChatGPT, there is no university-wide contract for it.
AI Services Built into General Apps
There are also Generative AI services that are not chat-based, but are built into apps that provide specific existing functions. In many cases, these services offer specific AI functions related to the app’s features (e.g., creating minutes in online meetings, assisting with document creation) and tend to be available with relatively simple operations.
Examples of services contracted university-wide by UTokyo include the following:
- AI Companion (in Japanese) in Zoom
- Please also see “Provision of Zoom AI Companion Features (in Japanese)” (January 27, 2025).

- This is provided to a limited number of faculty and staff. As of March 2026, as part of the “Promotion of Operational Reform using Generative AI,” it is only available to a small number of faculty and staff participating in the verification under certain conditions (Sign in with UTokyo Account is required; accessible only to faculty and staff).
- Gemini for Google Workspace in ECCS Cloud Email (Google Workspace for Education)
